We’re at the Holiday Inn by the airport in Helsinki, and this trip is almost Finnished. (You didn’t really expect me to get through this blog without at least one Finland pun, did you?)
The trip back to Helsinki from Turku was pretty much just a reverse of the way there. We abused the free WiFi to blog and upload photos, ate almost an entire pack of Jaffa Cakes (cakes, not biscuits), and saw a rainbow out the window when it started to downpour (only a single; how jaded we’ve become in the age of social media).
We arrived back at Helsinki’s central station just after seven, and dragged our bags across the main square for a quick dinner of some fast food sushi. As sushi goes, it was just okay, though they did have some with reindeer on it, which is kinda unique.
We caught the airport bus from the train station to Helsinki airport, which has the awesome airport code HEL. I think the signs on it really ought to say “welcome to hell”, though I suspect the Helsinki tourist board would’ve nixed that. From the airport, it was a quick hop on the free shuttle to our suitably generic overpriced airport hotel for the night.
All three of us are flying out very early in the morning tomorrow, so we’re making it an early night here in Vantaa. It’s not as though there’s all that much to do here anyway. Showers, bag repacking, Cat was motivated and hit the gym… Ultimately we ended up in the little airport bar drinking overly expensive drinks and playing cards until it was time to catch a few hours of sleep.
