The Wandering Chocoholic

Sooner rather than later

The dream of a trip around Southern South America has been at the top of my “list” for a while. Visions of snow-capped peaks, mountains and lakes, penguins, glaciers, wine and tango led me to decide that Chile and Argentina would be my next travel destinations.

Originally I’d hoped to go last December, but for various reasons I ended up going to Israel instead. So then the plan got adjusted to next December, simply because – in my thinking – not only would it be nice and summery in the southern hemisphere, but it would be the only time of year when I could hypothetically combine some vacation time with holiday time to create a longer period of time to travel. With so much to do and see in that part of the world, I really wanted the longest possible amount of time for this trip.

What changed my mind? Well, a combination of things, really.

First, I found out that Santiago-fest was in the works for mid-March, and some of the coolest travelaholics I know were planning to attend. Would I like to join in? I was sorely tempted.

Next, I learned that a trip down south to Patagonia was also on the agenda. It was getting more tempting by the moment.

Then I found out that LAN was having a seat sale, with some really awesome flight deals that would make the trip cost hundreds less now than it would next December.

And besides, December just felt really, really, really far away. As compared to March, which is, well, a lot sooner.

Twist my arm, why dontcha?

So I chucked my plans – after all, plans are meant to be changed – put in my request for vacation time, and booked a plane ticket.

Santiago-fest is on, baby!
