The Wandering Chocoholic

The early bird … is someone else

To put it mildly, I’m not exactly a morning person. So you might think that after all these years of travel, I would’ve figured out not to book 6:30am flights. But that would assume a level of intelligence that is, evidently, beyond me. The early flight was hundreds of dollars cheaper, and therefore worth the 4am wake-up call… not to mention the $45 cab ride to the airport since it’s too early for public transit. (Though the slightly surreal amusement of the cab driver singing along to “Flashdance” was worth the price.)

Why, oh why, do I do this to myself?

Oh well. I have something like 24 hours of flight time ahead of me to sleep. And if I don’t manage to catch some shut-eye on the plane, Vietnam’s a coffee country, right?

At any rate, I may not be well rested, but I’m at Trudeau airport, checked in, and ready to go. My flights will take me via New York and Tokyo before arriving in Hanoi late tomorrow night, assuming all goes well. In other words, despite my bleary eyes and zombie-like state, I am officially on vacation.

On y va!
