The Wandering Chocoholic

One month to go

The mercury is rising past 30 degrees fairly consistently, the sounds of jazz waft from the Quartier des Spectacles, and people across the city are loading up moving vans. Yep, summer in Montreal is here, and life is pretty much a nonstop party. Who the heck would want to leave?

Well, me, for one.

With winter as my natural habitat, and travel as my ongoing addiction, summer is but an excuse to hit the road for cooler pastures. Sitting here parked in front of my air conditioner with a bowl of ice cream, I’m basically counting down the days until I can escape the heat once again.

My destination this time is the Baltic region of North-Eastern Europe: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. Why there, you ask? I’ll give you my standard response: Why not?

Oh, you need a better reason? Okay, how about castles and lakes, medieval old towns, national parks, old Soviet remnants mixing with modern eco-friendly innovation, student towns, epic party cities, and beautiful archipelagos that time forgot?

Or maybe it really is just to beat the heat. It didn’t even hit 20 degrees in Helsinki today. Right now, that pretty much sounds like paradise.

At any rate, I’ll be back on the road in a month’s time. Loyal readers, I trust you’ll be once again following along with me as I make my way north along the Baltic Sea.
